Last Wednesday, we had a great event at the Falls of Bellaire Apartment Resource Center! The Summer Fun event centered on improving their community, planning additional activities, and the resources available in the Center. There was a drawing contest, games, and a pizza party. The kids participated in a real example of how voting gives everyone a voice in the process – very important in this election year. It was exciting to see so many parents and kids brave the suffocating heat to attend. A great turn out of enthusiastic parents and children!
Recently Texans Together and the Houston Health Department hosted other community leaders at a planning meeting on July 28, 2016. The meeting was part of the planning process addressing key findings from the Alief A.I.M. (Assessment Intervention Mobilization) report.
We had a great event at The Linda Vista Resource Center Wednesday and Thursday last week. After a slight rain hiccup on the first day, the rest of the event was hot and beautiful. Perfect weather to come together for some fun, information, and connect to the community. It was a great way to really get in the summer spirit and enjoy friends new and old.
We had a great community day at the Falls of Bellaire Family Day for The Falls of Bellaire Apartments Resource Center! The event was part of our outreach for CASE (Center for Afterschool, Summer, and Extended learning) from the Harris County Department of Education. The outreach put residents in touch with community resources, vendors, and activities for parents and kids.
Last Saturday, we were working at the Alief YMCA Healthy Kids Day. We shared tips for being a healthy engaged community member with voter registration, volunteer opportunities, and information on EHL (Empower Houston Leaders) training to turn their passion into projects for their communities.
Last Saturday we were out in Alief working with other community leaders and vendors at an Alief Children's Health Fair. There was a great turnout with over a 100 families before all of the bad weather.
Falls of Bellaire Resource Center kicked off our spring cleaning right with a major overhaul of the Computer Lab. It was out with the old and in with the new as AliefIndependent School District donated twelve computers. The computers are part of a program to help community resource centers meetAlief students’ educational activities by donating surplus computers after equipment upgrades. This is a huge advancement from our currently outdated and barely useable computers to actually working computers!
