Fun Running in Alief with After School Rocks!
We were out last Saturday at the Alief “After School Rocks! Fun Run” sponsored by Alief Wellness Department and the Alief After School Program.
The Fun Run was a community event opened to not only students, but also families and the community. The event consisted of a 1 mile Kids Run, 5K Walk/Run, and information/vendor tables to provide community resources and education about activities. We were there to provide voter registration, EHL (Empower Houston Leaders) registration, and sign up volunteers.

Studies have found that most young people, who are not engaged in educational activities during breaks, especially the summer, experience some learning loss. The “After School Rocks!” program from Alief Independent School District attempts to keep kids active through the summer and after school during the school year with planned activities and nutritional food. Community partners provide safe places and activities to keep kids active during the summer.
