A Great Week Reaching The Community

What did you do last week? We registered over 57 voters!

One of our volunteers and EHL (Empower Houston Leaders), Barbara Quattro, was out at Houston Community College (HCC) – Hayes Campus.  Barbara works hard in the Alief community and the parks.  She is the definition of grassroots activism and we are so lucky to have her support.

HCC understands the importance of having students involved in their communities and civil engagement.  The school allowed us on their campus to give information on volunteer opportunities, Empower Houston Leader classes, and perform voter registration. Barbara registered 19 voters in only a few hours!

Then Saturday, we were out at Alief ISD's Family U. We were invited to Family U, a part of Alief ISD’s  Family and Community Engagement Program FAME (Families Actively and Meaningfully Engaged). The theme this year for the event at Alief Hastings 9th Grade Center was All Aboard: No Families Left Behind.  The enthusiastic crowd certainly was a huge leap toward that goal.  Over 400 families signed up to encourage and foster their participation in the community and the schools. We helped register voters, gave information on volunteer opportunities in their community and gave a presentation on EHL (Empower Houston Leaders).  Our Spanish and English session was a packed room. We were so grateful to the Alief ISD for the opportunity to attend. Awesome event!
