Spanish EHL Class Graduates

Our Graduating Class

Last Tuesday on December 10th, Texans Together graduated our latest EHL class at Our Lady Of Guadalupe church in Baytown, Texas. This was the first in a new series of classes oriented toward the Spanish speaking community with the entire curriculum being offered in Spanish. The class was taught by Chris Shillaci and lasted six weeks and everyone learned a lot and had a great time.

From Left to Right: Saeed Rose, Jacquelyn Young, Chris Schillaci, Michael Espinoza, Frank Garcia and Eva Calvillo

Our staff was there along with twenty others to celebrate all the hard work and fun that the class had. We celebrated by eating a meal and having a delicious cake for desert. Then our guest speaker, Michael Espinoza, talked to the class about his real world experiences in organizing and activism. Michael Espinoza is a long-time activist and worked with us on the “Justice for Janitors” campaign. We all wore EHL shirts and our grads got certificates marking this special occasion.

One of our new graduates, Juana Lopez, was so excited by the first class that she attended that she recuited her own son to attend. He graduated with her last Tuesday. Juana is interested in starting a support group for women in stressful domestic situations.

Congratulations to all our EHL grads and welcome to the fight! This time I know we’ll win!
