Texans Together Stopping in at One Stop College Fair

Last Saturday, we were out at Kashmere Multi-Service Center for the One-Stop College Fair. The College Fair featured speakers venders about Financial Aid, College Prep, Career Development, DREAMER qualification, and Admissions.
Some of the students also signed up to be volunteers to give back to their community. Not only did it provide them an opportunity for much needed community service hours for their college applications, but the opportunity to step forward and help people who helped them.
We even met and signed up some of the students' parents for the Parent Engagement Empower Houston Leaders (EHL) workshop. The small group of parents spoke about their experiences and what they thought needed to change. It is always exciting to see parents engaged in making the world better for children.
There were also representatives from Cafe' College, University of Houston Downtown, Bank on Houston, Texas Southern University, Lone Star College, and Workforce Solutions who spoke to perspective students. Along with Texans Together, there were community venders like First National Bank of Texas, METRO, Houston Health Department, and Neighborhood Tax Centers in attendance. They were helping parents and students sort out everything from banking to health care and immunizations to transportation to tax implications of child in college.
